How to connect Grok Bot to Shopify safely
Connect Grok Bot to Shopify for a read-only fulfilment exception queue. See the access path, minimum scopes, test cases and actions that need approval.
Start with one read-only job
Do not begin by asking Grok Bot to run the store. Start with the fulfilment exception queue: orders that need a person because of an address problem, stock issue, overdue fulfilment or failed handoff.
The Bot reads approved order and fulfilment fields, creates an internal report and drafts the next step. It does not edit an order or contact a customer.
Prepare these inputs
- the Shopify store URL;
- the order window to inspect;
- the fulfilment states that count as an exception;
- the owner responsible for reviewing the queue;
- the internal output location;
- two normal orders and two exception orders for testing.
Remove customer fields that the report does not need.
Choose the connection route
- In Grok Bot, open Marketplace and search for the approved Shopify or connector option available to the account.
- Review the permissions before selecting Add or Authenticate.
- If the required connection is not available, use a Shopify app or approved connector built for the store. Do not give the Bot a human owner's password or paste an Admin API token into chat.
- Authorize only the data the first workflow needs.
Grok Bot plugin connections belong to the Cursor account. A Teams administrator can also restrict which plugins are available.
Request the minimum Shopify access
Shopify requires apps to declare data scopes and have the merchant approve them. For this first workflow, prefer read scopes only.
| Workflow need | Access to consider | Leave out at first |
|---|---|---|
| Read recent orders | read_orders |
write_orders |
| Inspect assigned fulfilment work | the applicable fulfilment-order read scope | fulfilment write scopes |
| Add low-stock reporting later | read_inventory and read_products if required |
inventory and product write scopes |
Orders and fulfilments can contain protected customer data. The report should include only the fields the operations owner needs.
Copy this first-task instruction
Review Shopify orders created in the approved time window. Use only the connected store and the exception definitions in the operations file. Create an internal table with order reference, exception type, current fulfilment state, source link and proposed next step. Redact customer fields that are not needed for review. Do not edit an order, issue a refund, create a discount, change inventory, contact a customer or guess a missing fact. Mark uncertain rows for the store owner and stop.
Run four supervised tests
- A normal fulfilled order should not enter the exception queue.
- An order with the named exception should appear with the correct source link.
- An ambiguous order should be marked for review, not classified by guesswork.
- An attempted write should stop and ask for approval.
Compare every row with Shopify admin. Schedule the workflow only when the Bot finds the test exceptions and makes no store changes.
Add more work one queue at a time
After the fulfilment report is reliable, add one of these as a separate workflow:
- low-stock reporting against approved reorder points;
- supplier follow-up drafts for open purchase orders;
- customer-support draft preparation;
- review-response drafts.
Refunds, discounts, inventory changes, order edits, supplier sends and customer messages remain human-approved actions.
