Grok Bot on Linux or Windows
Grok Bot ships as a macOS and iOS app. No Linux app. Windows reports are inconsistent. What that means for your team and how to run it anyway.
Short answerOfficially: macOS (Apple silicon and Intel) and iOS. The docs say there is no Linux desktop app. Some third-party guides claim Windows; treat that as unconfirmed until it's on the official download page. The Bots run in the cloud, so one Mac or iPhone on the team is enough to manage them.
The practical answer
The Bots do their work on a cloud computer. The app on your device is a control surface. So a team on Windows or Linux needs one person with a Mac or iPhone to create Bots and approve things, not a Mac for everyone.
Workarounds we use
- iPhone as console. The iOS app supports setup and threads. Most day-to-day approvals happen there anyway.
- One Mac mini. A cheap Mac on the team as the Grok Bot admin machine. It's not running the Bots; it's the keyboard.
- Slack as the interface. Route Bot output and approval summaries into Slack via routines so Windows and Linux teammates see the work without the app.
What we wouldn't do
Run a macOS VM to get the app on unsupported hardware. It's against Apple's terms on non-Apple hardware and a support dead end.
