Grok Bot vs n8n

n8n is node-by-node workflow automation you host; Grok Bot is a Bot you describe a job to. Determinism, cost, maintenance, and when each is right.

Short answerUse n8n for anything that must happen exactly the same way every time (billing syncs, data pipelines). Use Grok Bot for work that needs judgement, reading and drafting (triage, follow-ups, research). Mature teams run both, with n8n doing the plumbing and a Bot doing the parts a person used to.
Criteria Grok Bot n8n
How you build Describe the job in chat; teach by demonstration Draw nodes; configure each
Determinism Low; the Bot reasons each run High; same input, same output
Handles unstructured input Yes Only with an LLM node bolted in
Cost Plan + metered tokens Self-host free / cloud from ~$20; API tokens for any LLM nodes
Failure mode Does something plausible but wrong Errors loudly
Maintenance Re-test after Grok Bot updates Re-fix after API changes
Verdict Judgement work Deterministic plumbing

The rule of thumb

If you could write the steps as an exact flowchart, it's n8n (or Zapier or Make). If the steps involve "read this and decide", it's a Bot.

Where people go wrong

Using a Bot for a sync job. It'll work 96 times out of 100 and the other four will be creative. Using n8n for inbox triage. It'll route on keywords and miss everything that matters.

The pattern we ship

n8n moves data and fires webhooks into a shared inbox or Slack; a Bot reads what arrives and does the human-shaped part; n8n takes the Bot's structured output and writes it where it belongs. The Bot never touches the database.
